Day Services Program

Day Services

A day in Day Services is one of exploration and discovery.  What can I learn today---what can I do today that I have never done before? A variety of field trips, community activities, and learning opportunities are on our Day Services daily agenda. Day trips and local community integration provide the stage for our Day Service participants to be all that they can be. Learning daily life skills, developing communication skills, and nurturing our client's creative spirits, makes Highline's Day Service program better than any other.

The Day Service program provides opportunities for individuals with developmental or physical disabilities to explore and achieve training and experiences that allow them to achieve their maximum level of independence in life.  Some examples of these activities include:

  • cooking and baking
  • sewing, ironing, and laundering clothing
  • money management
  • safety procedures and practices
  • health awareness
  • menu planning and shopping
  • basic computer skills
  • reading/writing skills

Our Day Service program centers around the needs and desires of each individual.  A Person-Centered Planning approach insures the uniqueness of each person is foremost in planning the activities aimed at enriching the life of the participant.  Highline staff members receive continual training to develop and maintain the professional skills and techniques necessary in supporting their individuality.

The Day Services program begins with an assessment of the participant’s values, assets and limitations.  Among the qualities assessed are cognitive and physical abilities, special interests and abilities, behavioral issues, interpersonal and coping skills, medical and nutritional issues, and daily living skills.

Individual and group activities are offered to enhance or maintain the participant’s life, leisure, and work skills.  To exercise both their minds and bodies, participants use computers, exercise machines, games, regular library visits and occassional science experiments. As a part of our environmental awareness program, participants plant trees, plant and maintain a garden, collect maple sap for syrup, go berry picking, and learn about honey production.  We believe being active in our communities is equally important. Our clients visit museums, zoos, parks, and local shops.  We explore local history, traditions and current events.  All of these activities are aimed at our client's achieving a higher level of independence.

Participants in Highline’s Day Services Program have established several fundraisers throughout the year and contribute to a variety of local benefits.

Not everything can be about goals and programs.  Some participant’s just need a quiet, comfortable place to relax and recharge.  Highline recognizes this as an important human need and provides the space and atmosphere for people to relax, visit with their coworkers, and revitalize themselves.

Highline offers one of the most creative, nuturing, and professional Day Service Programs available. If interested, please go to our "Contact Us" page to find out more.
